Do conservatives gang up on the truthers because the vast majority of crazies are on their side?

From birthers to creationists to deniers of man-made global warming, the assortment of nutjob lunatics on the right seems to far outweigh the ones on the left. Is this, in part, because liberals have been proven more intelligent and more likely to be well-educated?
