How does music influence culture and change society today?

C'mon....we do need a real society and culture question once in awhile. Be Bop ushered in the 40's as a celebration to the end of the world wars, rock and roll was born in the 50's, and thrived in the 60's as a real revolution in rebellion to conformist society. R&B crossed the color lines established in the 50's and during the '70's spoke to the world through music. Hip hop was born in the '80's.......but what ever happened to the influence music had on society after that?
